Most of you are going to laugh about this... and I would too if I knew the answer!

I have inherited a 78' Wagoneer w/ a 360. I am going to swap out the engine over the next couple of weekends and started getting ready tonight.

Pulled the carb out to rebuild it and there is accordian looking vaccum device right next to it on the driver's side that was connected to the throttle shaft.

Is this for the tranny? Some sort of triggering mech for passing gear or what?

Ok.... you can stop laughing now.

TIA

Great. I guess I will keep it then!

Thanks! I am sure I will have another question to post soon.

It works off vacuum. Most of the ones guys around here have are cracked and don't hold a vacuum so they don't work.

You said something about swapping engines. Is there something wrong with the 360 or you just prefer something else?

By the way, Welcome! smile.gif

Preacher,

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I started using the Wagon last winter when my CJ7 was in the shop getting some new t-case gears (TeraLow). It had been sitting for atleast a year before that when my father was diagnosed with cancer.

While driving a local pass something let go in the engine. Sounds like a bunch of Evil Keebler elves having a riot with hammers inside it. The engine has X89000 miles on it, and was probably only working on 5 cylinders.

Thought it would be best just to swap it and learn more about the 360 in the process. A bit different from my straight-6 258.
