View Full Version : Defroster Duct Problem!!!
On my 88 Wag all of my functions on the heater work well. The problem is that it does not stay on the defrost setting. The switch on the dash will stay there, but you can actually here it switching from defrost setting to the heat/defrost setting. I am assuming it may be vaccum related, but where do the lines go that connect to the control unit and what should I look for? Is there a vaccum motor that moves the duct work? Any other ideas? BTW I replaced the control unit with an extra and it still exhibits the same behavior.

If I am not mistaken there are two vacuum motors under the dash on your Wagoneen. And if I remember correctly one of them has two hoses on it. It may be that one of the hoses has come off or one of them is leaking, they can be checked out with a hand vacuum pump. ;)
Thanks for the info. It was dark and have no garage so will look tomorrow. Any specifics as to the general locations of the vac. motors.

I believe that one is directly over the trans hump and the other is right above the passenger foot well. If you old like me they are a pain to get to, maybe you can con you wife "with honey you have smaller hands than I do, would see if you can do this for me?" Sometimes it works. Good luck! ;)
