Anybody got any great ideas on twin sticking a Ford NP205? Has anyone seen any info online about doing this? I am doing a swap and this is my main concern.

would it be possible to use the currie Dana 300 kit on the 205?

Not sure, I have no idea how the D300 kit works or whether it can be adapted

Yes, with minor mods you can use the Dana twin stick setup. There was a write up in 4 wheel drive and off road magazine doing this conversion. Basically you just have the grind a section off the shifter rod in order to be able to put full power to the front and no power to the rear.

I am doing this on mine and have caddy parking brake calipers on the rear discs. I'll have a park brake lever for each wheel. If I get into tight situations which require a much smaller turning radius I can lock out power to the rear and apply the brake to the wheel I want to spin the FSJ jeep on.

i have a currie twin stick, and i wouldnt recomend anyone spend $150 on it,as there is not much to it. anyone with moderate fabricating skills can make their own twin stick shifter for less $$ than that.

to fully benefit from twis stick shifters, you can also remove the interlock pills, but the better way to do it is to modify the shift rails like FSJeeper said. this will prevent you(or someone else not experienced in driving your truck) from inadvertantly shifting the front and rear outputs into different ranges.obviously, trying to spin one set of wheels 1.96 times faster than the other is going to break something

essentially, all you are doing is elongating the detents on the shift rails were the interlock pill rides. this gives more movement of each rail independently of the other. you need to elongate them just enuff that the rails can move one position away from one another. this lets you move the rear shifter up into neutral while the front is in low, or the front shifter into neutral while the rear is in high, etc. but you cannot move a sifter 2 positions, for example the front from high to neutral, then neutral to low while the rear is in high.

dont know if that helps you any,but its the best explination i could give without benefit of pictures smile.gif

I am using the off road designs twin shifter setup for the doubler and tcase, and then the stock chevy shifter modified. I'll have 3 shifters, one for the NP203 gear redustion box and 2 for the NP205.

Is there any difference in the shifting mechanism on a Cheby np205 and the ford np205?

The only difference is the location. The Ford has a drivers side drop and the Chevy a passenger side drop. The shift mechanism itself is the same.

Here's another detailed description of a twin-stick 205, along with pictures (further down the page):

And a scan of the Peterson's article:
