stupid thing leaks! i just rebuilt the oil pump(new gears, springs, ect. i put the gasket that came with it and it leaks alot. ir runs, i packed it full of vasile and blood(owwy) and it has about 70 lbs now at 15oo rpm. but it is leaking! should i tear it apart and shmutz it?

yes fix it, a leaky pump isnt good as it gets worse over time and terrible for the environment

uhhmn, the gasket thickness is critical to maintaining oil pressure. dont gunk it. not only will it decrease the psi, but you realy dont want rtv running around inside the oil passages. what i would do is to remove the plate, check it for warpage. make a new gasket out of the same thickness matl. .010 iirc. tighten the bolts evenly and pray it doesnt leak. you dint scratch the timing covr did you?

ok, i did shmutz it, for now. i do need to replace the timing chain cover, inwhich i have a spare good one. it still has 70 lbs at startup, 30-40 driving warm. i said to myself, "self, i do belive 20-40lbs of pressure is good enough" and i left it like that. my next project is the exaust. it fell apart tonight. hehe. loud as hell. open manifold. hehe

I use the gasket brushed with NAPA Aircraft gasket sealer. It's a thin brush on and works awesome, let it set briefly to tack up before assembly.

A little oil helps keep the dust down on the dirt roads.

The dealer sells the gasket you need, and cheap too! I say go buy not one but 2, so next time you don't have to make the trip they're cheap enough.
