Is there supposed to be a dash light that comes on when 4WD is activated? Or for 4Lo?
(1987 G-Wag)
Thanks,
Dave

There should be a greeen 4wd light that comes on when you are in 4 wheel drive. I wouldn't count on it being the only indicator you are in 4wd as a wire could be bad. If your not sure if your in 4...check this out http://www.ifsja.org/humor/130.shtml :D :D

My 81 has a 4wd light. It is orange. Drives me nuts when I am wheeling because I keep seeing an orange light out of the corner of my eye and I think something is wrong!

My cherokees case shifts pretty east smile.gif , But that orange ligth does get annoying, so I just use 4lo since it doesn't come on in 4high part time.

My NP209 shifts like a dream. I don't even mind having to get out and lock the hubs.

I don't have any problems shifting my NP228. Right in and right out, low range is the same. However, my fathers's 87 w/NP229 can sometimes be a pain in the butt. Our 85 w/229 is the complete opposite, right in and right out.

MY 229 shifts real easy, but my light does not work....even after I changed the bulb... :(
I wish I had an orange one to be mad at...

I love the sight of my orange 4WD light
because it's the only gauge that does work on the dash!!!

shadowfax101, do you have the plug going into the bottom of the transfer case? On my dad's 85, the light was in the dash but there was no plug for it and the socket it would plug into on the case was empty inside, it is also the same on my 229 in my 83. I also thought I heard somewhere on this board that the 4wd light in the dash for the 80-85 dash styles only worked with the 208 and not the 229? Just a thought.

I shouldn't say this but since Crazy Jeepman fixed my vac motor...it shifts like a dream..from high to low and back also...I have been spraying all the linkages with wd40 quite a bit though and washing the thing after every snow..or salt!
