A year ago this December the gas caps on my J20 failed emissions testing. They were two differently keyed locking gas caps that came with the truck. In desperation I bought two non-locking caps from napa, but they didn’t fit. In more despair I bought two non-locking caps from pep boys, but they didn’t fit. In a state of insanity I bought two non-locking caps from the jeep dealer. They fit, but cost $70, and they’re not locking caps.
So now it’s December again and I am still looking for some nice locking gas caps that are keyed the same. Does anyone have a part number or know a company that would carry a matched pair of locking caps?

Looking for a locking gas cap for my '84 GW, I found that they use the same one as early Wranglers. See if you can take your old one in to the store with you to compare the "business" end with the ones on the rack.

Thanks for the info. It’s a done deal, I hope. I bought the Stant keyed alike gas caps from Discount Auto Parts.com (http://webepc.com/cgi-bin/sewse?/u/www/webepc.com/cmm/scripts/epc10.cmm+discap).
I found that link using the search engine of old posts on this site. Great info.

Well I’m getting keyed alike gas caps for my J20. But they’re gonna cost me $96. I must really want these bad. Yep, I guess I do.
In order to get two locking Stant gas caps I ended up having to buy 7 keyed alike gas caps. That covers the minimum order required by Stant. These gas caps are apparently very unpopular and they don’t want to stock even one. I’m not sure if I am going to get them in a week or four months, but I might have some extra caps if anyone is interested. Or I may keep all of them and use the extras as wind chimes.
As of now I have invested $195 in gas caps since the original locking gas caps failed emissions last December. I liked investing money in the TFI upgrade much more.
I'll take one when you get them in...Let me know!

… I don’t know the proper venting for gas caps on all FSJs but Most fuel caps on older FSJs vent IN but not out
… It is possible to create a negative pressure (vacuum) in the fuel system which in turn can lead to fuel starvation and vaporization. Many older vehicles have had their gas caps replaced with the wrong type..
Have a good one… ;) CUL... ds..

Just bought a '87 J-20. Would be interested in your locking gas caps. Also, do I see you have duel 38 gallons tanks and a limited slip (locking) differential. I would like to add both. Any infor?

When I get the caps I will send you a private message. You too ffey.
I have 38-gallon gas capacity. The stock “front” tank is an 18-gallon. The “rear” tank is a 20-gallon.
The Detroit Locker I have is not limited slip. It is posi-traction. You will wear the rear tires down severely with one of these babies.

Does the posi-traction operate manually or automatic? If manually, I would assume when you no longer need it you would need to deactivate some how to keep from rear tires chirping when you turn.

Its a full time locker!

I guess posi-traction isn’t the correct technical term for a Detroit Locker. It is a locker. It locks both axels together with gears, not clutches. It does this automatically. You can read about them at this address.

 Put me on your list for a gas cap, I have a 79 Cherokee Chief, that currently doesn't have one, and a locking one sounds good to me..
