Hey Gang,

Need your help, please. What is the proper proceedure for replacing the flex track on my passengers side front window? The Haynes manual isn't very clear on this.

The window goes 1/2 the way up and stops, and will not stay up if I help to the top of the channel.

I am hoping it is the flex track.

A word from the pro's is great appreciated.

Yeah, it's the flex track. Head over to ifsja.org for the archives and how to do it. You can get these for 11-15 bucks. DON'T go to the dealer.

Shaggin,

I just searched all of the archives and couldn't find it. Any other avenues to look??

Evidently, the dealer is reasonable on this.

I feel your pain !! Actually, I bot my new track at the dealership, and it was only $12.00.
The write up in the technical library could not have made the job any easier.
Just print, take to the driveway and enjoy !!
Took me about 45 minutes to do mine.

Hah, my 83 Wagoneer LTD has the exact same problem with the same passenger/front window!

I hate to say it but it doesn't sound like the flex track. I've had to replace these things 3 different times and every time I either rolled the window up or down for the very last time when the flex track broke. I've never been able to roll it up a little or nothing. They went down and stayed down. Hopefully it is the flex track and yours is just behaving different than mine did.

It would do that if the track broke in the middle; usually, they break right near the end that joins to the window glass, so they act as 89Grand described.

I'd say the bottom half of the track is "nonfunctiatory."

Keith,

Thank you for the links. I actually went back and followed your directions and found them. I have the parts and will tackle the issue tonight. It almost sounds like it takes more time to take off the door panel then to replace the track.

Keep you all posted. This site rocks!

Just be careful when you remove the panel not to rip out your elec. mirror toggle. I just set it (the panel)up on something so I don't have to deal will it. Good luck my man!

Also, the new flex track can break. When installing mine I had it bent pretty good and let go of it. It sprung back, struck something in the door and the top broke off. :(
