I'd like to replace my stock, 5-lug, 16x6" steel wheels with something just one or two inches wider. LT285/75/16 tire bulged out too much on the rim, barely rubbed the rear spring pack.

Haven't had any luck finding a wider 16" 5-lug wheel with same bolt pattern, and hub opening.

Has anyone run that Swamper LTB 34x9.5x16"?

Last thing - I haven't tried a 15" wheel since my drums are the original 12 or 12.5" ones, (front and rear.)

What else has anyone run for wheels on similar year FSJs whith the '73 and earlier leaf springs and D44 and 60-2 axles? Thank you for any suggestions.

You should be able to run 15" rims on that, my Willy truck had the stock 16" rims on it and the 15x8's fit fine, my drums were 11x2's iirc.
You could double check by just finding/borrowing a used one and throwing it on there.
