I got my '84 GW 360 crank redone at the local machine shop for my rebuild. They went .010 under on all journals to clean up scratches. According to my Chilton's, the #5 main is supposed to be .001" smaller than the rest, nominal. On my reworked crank, the journals are all "exactly" the same size, .010 under the standard for 1-4, which makes #5 .009 under instead of the stated .010 under.
Do I have a problem in the making? Did the shop goof? I don't have bearings yet, so I can't Plastigage check. I just want to know if I should expect the shop to take off another .001", or is this normal and fine?
Thanks in advance!
Al

Mains 1 through 4 are to have a 2.7474 to 2.7489 Spec # 5 main is to be 2.7464 to 2.7479 spec. If the crank was ground even then I would guess you are going to have a problem.

The number 5 main also calls for a slightly larger clearance as well (.002-.003 with .0025 being preferred). You should be fine. Just do a preassemble to make sure and my guess is it will be ok.

Opps I thought you meant they took .010 off all which would have made #5 slightly smaller but after rereading your post see they didn't. I would call them back to ask them if they caught this and if so why they didn't take more of 5. Maybe go .001 undersized on the bearing.
