Did I say that? My speedometer is a little noisy till it hits 45 then it goes all over the place. I just lubed it to no avail. How difficult is it to work on the speedometer itself? Is it hard to remove? Then what? Help!

not too bad on those, the bezel is the pain... there are clips that u dont want to break on it, i THINK(from memory of when i chopped a 90 up) that the bezel comes off then the cluster is right there with like 6 screws...again i think(they are different from mine)

I already have the cluster loose so I could lube the cable. Am a little hesitant to take it completely out for fear of damaging something due to my ignorance. How does the speedometer come out of the housing? Should I leave this to a pro?

you may just need a new speedo cable. my bugs used to go through them. i have never replaced a cable on any thing else. i usually could replace the actual cable if i caught it while it was just frayed not broken. on the jeep the cable is on the transfer case. it should unclip or unscrew from the speedo. i would try the cable first.

I don't think it's the cable because of all the noise coming from the speedometer. I could certainly be wrong but I'm betting on the speedo.

I would say I agree with ShagginWagon. Its probanly the speedo. But to put peace of mind to you, fisrst check out the cable, take it off from underneath. to do this job just take your time, there are screws on the outside of the speedo and you may have to lower the steering colume (two bolts under the colume itself). You can pick up another complete unit for a few buck at a wrecker.
I changed out my speedo on my valient last year and it wasn't that bad. You dont need to hire a "pro" to do it unless you have to.
Good luck

Well, I guess I'll give it a whack this weekend. Thanks.
