Sometimes, when making a tight turn, or a regular turn too fast. I can can a clanking up front. Then sometimes i can feel it. Like a piece of metal is shifting positions, when i don't think it should. And i can feel it right under my feet.

My u-joint is on its way out, but is there any other reason for the sound?

If you asked me draw a picture based on the sound, then it's like this:

(drivers side) |------| (pass.)

the line is a metal "rod" and it seems to swivel about 30 degrees from an unknown point on the passenger side.

Ball joints or front axle u-joints in the knucles are the most likely culprits.

Don't understand what you were trying to illustrate??

Check the spring ends in the perches. Awhile after I put my lift on and had wheeled it a bunch, the bushings settled or the perches opened a little, or something. The spring would move a little from side to side along the bolt when turning tight. It is really noticeable at a stop and cranking the wheel hard to the right. You could see a little clearance between the edge of the spring and the perch. If I crank them down, the truck rides rough. If I leave 'em loose, she is a little squirrley. I made sure I had self locking nuts and tightened the bolts to where they are just turnable by hand. Turned out okay. If you don't have a lift, it is also possible that your stock rubber bushings quit on you and are doing the same thing.

It probably needs grease in the front end.

That would suck, cause i've asked 2 differant mechs. to grease it all up.

The last guy who looked, told me my front diff. was not turning with the truck.

you sure it's not just the double cardan on the front propellar shaft? Those ave to be lubed super regularly and since your front shaft spins all the time, it might be making noise when you load or unload the axle in the turn. That'[s on the driver's side and (when they come apart) will hit the floor board.

just a thought
