View Full Version : A/C delete--new belts?

Since my compressor, condenser, and hoses are all junk, I'll be scrapping my air conditioning. This, of course, will require shorter belts to run the alternator. Will stock "non-A/C" belts work, or is the alternator mounted in a different (higher) location on non-A/C rigs? I *could* just measure and get belts for the correct length, but I'd rather use the factory "non-A/C" accessory drive arrangement. Any ideas?

Non-AC belts should work fine. Alt is mounted in same position to best of my knowledge.

I removed the AC on my '77 Chero. The stock non-ac belts worked fine.

Grab a replacement compressor at the boneyard and do the OBA thing. It is the best mod I ever did on my truck.

I agree with using the old compressor for onboard air. Here is a link with a lot of good info.

No, it's light tan, with science-project carpet and mouse-feces leather. (EEEWWWWWWW!!!)

May I assume you're in need of the underdash vent system?

I will certainly look into OBA as a future mod, but at the moment, getting the drivetrain/frame/tailgate into operating condition is the highest priority. smile.gif
