Here is a question for you guys. I have two dana 44 axles off a 76 wt cherokee to slide under my 79 wagoneer. The axles under the 79 are also dana 44s. Are the front axle shafts from the 79 long enough to use in the wt axles? I thought it would be nice to have a spare set of axle shafts in the rig will out crawlin around a rock pile. I have checked my warn catalog and they list aftermarket axle shafts for the wagoneer and cherokee but don't differenciate between wt and nt. Any info would be helpful.

sorry, the narrow trac axlesafts are shorter than the widtrac shafts,no good for spares, unless youre gonna carry the whole front end
there is supposedly a difference between jtruck and widetrac chero, buy the axleshafts in my 79 widetrac frontend are the same as the axleshafts that came in our 77 j20 parts truck.

Hey thanks scotty for the info. Do you know of a place the sells aftermarket shafts for the wide tracks? Would a J-10 have the same axle shafts as well?

Moser or some other company will need to make you custom axle shafts for the wide track axle.
I have not been able to find alloy shafts off the shelf so I may possibly put a chevy front axle under mine to get the Warn off the shelf axles from Drivetrain Wharehouse.
I am going to be putting in a rear dana 60 out of a J20 and the chevy axle should be a good match.
I will have to pull the shafts out of my 81 drives side diff front axle and compare axle length to the chevy, 79 J20 & J10, and 79 wt Cherokees to see if I can come up with some spares in the meantime.

another thing i discovered is that the axles are not the same for driver/pass side diffs. i got an empty housing, and thot id use my driver side diff, axles, etc. but the short side is longer on a drive side diff than the short side of a pass side diff. this might be common sense, but for some reason it didnt occur to me till i was actually looking at one next to the other...
