Nothing is ever easy.

Swapping an SM420/dana 300 into a 131" J10 with a 350SBC.

The rear driveshaft is 4.5" in diameter and has a compressed length of 71".

What is the longest stock rear driveshaft in an FSJ?

Right now it is about an inch short with the new tranny/xfer, I guess that it needs to be lenghtened 2.5-3". The machine shop I went to doesn't carry the 4.5" tubing and they thought it would be to long.

Tom woods said is was too long for his machine and i would need a 2-piece shaft.

Why can't anything be straight forward, Anyone have a 74" driveshaft or a 2-piece from a 2WD chevy truck laying around they want to give me?

Has anyone else swapped this drivetrain into a LWB truck?

What a PITA!

Would a CV take up the slack?

Maybe a 3/4" clocking ring would also help and you could get the D300 up and out of the way?

Those 2 may get you your 3" needed?

You may also want to try a big truck junk yard.
They have all kinds of cool Drive line options, usually for real cheap. Just bring a tape measure.

I think a clocking ring is out.

I used a Novak Adapter and I don't think the tranny output shaft has enough length to for additional space.

Thanks for the idease though

It's late and nobody cares, but something scotty said earlier combined with this driveshaft crap has got me thinking.

Since I will need a second cross member anyway if i use a 2-piece drive shaft. Maybe i will just try to use the divorced NP200 from the M715 as a second xfer behind the dana 300, and have a twin stick and a crawl ratio of 130:1.

Hmmm, Time to get out the tape measure....
