my hood shrank in the dryer?

So, I finally get the front grille to replace the one that was barely hangin' on to the front of my '84 Gwag. Well, The new one fits great, but there is space between the front of the hood and the edge of the grille that I thought was just do to the crappy condition of the old grille...Its never been in an accident and nothing looks bent.
Am I missing some goofy bolt-on for the front of the hood?

I have seen later model ones where the hood reaches all the way forward to cover some part of the grille....or was I suffering from hood envy?

Jus some great engineering. How about the rear window wiper on the late Grand Wags? Isn't that a charmer?
