I read an article about the quadra-trac and it said on long trips all the oil will sling off/out of the clutches and cause a "stick-slip" situation until you drive if figure eights to get the oil flowing again. Has any one ever heard of this and is it a potential problem?

I can't say I have heard of that. I have made a lot of road trips in my 78 Wag with QT and it has never given me any problems. Just make sure that the fluid (the proper QT fluid) is fresh and filled to the right level, and it should be fine. When you say Quadra trac, I assume you mean the Borg Warner 1339 or 1305.

My BW-1339 feels a little jumpy when I turn very sharply and more so when cold. So does the LSD in the rear of my ‘99 Frontier.
... When I bought my ’76 Waggy early in 1985 the rear clutch spline was stripped and the chain was a little loose. I drove it that way till 1998 when the chain became very loose. I put in a new chain and a used rear clutch and started having the jumpiness.
... I did a lot of figure 8s with no change but I don’t think it’s a problem as long as the tire matching and air pressure is correct. It's a 2000+ mile round trip to Colorado for me and I've been 4 or 5 times since the new clutch.
... The figure 8s are probably causing a lot of wear. http://www.feebleminds-gifs.com/smiley-faces-28.gif

The stick slip is a result of the differential never needing to differentiate. The clutches never get forced to slip, but just build up and up and gravity pulls the fluid off, eventually the the clutch needs to differientiate, and the clutches slip with a bang as they are not lubed.
At least that is my take on it. I try to drive on rough surfaces when ever possible and go for the figure 8's when I have time. I think you will know if you are in a stick slip, banging and popping as you go down the road. Of course, you should check the slack in your chain to eliminate chain slippage from the possible list of what is popping, but I would not get too worried. Keep the qt fluid level right and grease the front driveshaft and you should be fine.

you are pretty much on the right track... stick-slip condition is a known symptom of the QT from lack of differentiating as stated.... the brakecones just get stuck to the inner walls of the center diff until they are forced to break free... since there is a lack of lube where the contact was, you get the bang-pop effect until you lube the brakecones again ( thus with a few figure 8's around the parking lot)
The '8's will allow a minimal slipping of the front and rear cones, allowing the QT fluid to lube the center diff walls and the brakecones.
