How big is the gas tank on a 1988 Grand Waggoner? I can only get my gage to register 3/4 a tank. Is that common? It is full, just shows 3/4 tank. The backgroud of the gauge hasn't slipped either.

21.5 US gal.
Yup FSJ fuel gauges are even worse than their oil gauges for going south at an early age. Usually it's just the sending unit float(or non-float).

Thanks that is the info that I was looking for.

Sending unit huh? So just drop the tank and replace it? Know where to get one, or is this another one of those dealer only things?

I haven't chased one down but heard of others getting them at conventional parts stores. Like Andy said above on 1980 and later Wags/Cheros you don't need to drop the tank but you will need to drill out the rivets in the access cover behind the seat. "Be careful" when you do this and DON'T drill too far... the plastic tank is directly below the cover plate. Later just use sheet metal screws to hold down the cover. Short...sheet metal screws http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif
