Just bought an 81 chero W/T. Haven't seen it up close and personal yet. My dad has it at his place in FL. How do I tell which t-case? It's auto, Part time 4wd, 2HI, 4HI, 4Low. He says the drive train has some slop when going from coast to acceleration, and drive to reverse. Suspect it's t-case chain and I want to show up with the correct part before I drive it home.

Selec-Trac? - Don't know what kind... But are you sure it's the chain? I think I have a stretched chain (or borken sprockett teeth) in mine. But mine makes a popping noise when I gas it.

The slop may be in the rear differential. And I think most of our jeeps (on this board) make a clunk going into reverse.

You're likely going to have a np208 in there. the slop you speak of..tranny mount is probly part of your culprit,u-joints would be hi on the list also.
