My Chero is running way too hot. While driving about 10 miles to the dump, it got up to about 275 degrees on the aftermarket guage. Strangely, the temperature maxed out while on the freeway, and actually cooled off a bit in town. I'm thinking its my thermostat not opening at 195 deg. like its supposed too. Any ideas. Heater works fine.

Make sure your bottom hose is not collapsing- should have a coiled spring in the hose to keep it open. Other than that the usual suspects- fan working properly, water pump ok, timing, fuel mixture...etc.

I went through similar symptoms last summer with a Toyota. Too hot on the freeway, cools off a bit driving in town.
Installed a new radiator, and the gauge never again went above the halfway mark.

Make sure your radiator cap is good.
I spent a lot of time and effort looking for problems when all it took was a new cap.
