Does anyone know if the guages from an 87 waggy will fit in the dash of a 77 cherokee, and would the wiring be the same or different connectors etc? My gas guage is faulty and i have aftermarket oil pressure and water temp guages. I really like to rely on a gas guage :D . I phoned about an autometer guage and supposedly they dont make one that will work with the stock sending unit, has anyone dealt with this before and wanna shed some light for me? Part numbers or anything would be very helpful, thanks in advance to anyone who can make this easier for me.

The under dash/engine harnesses are way different as are the sending units. It's doable but lotsa splicing and dicing. Not a job for electrically challenged mere mortals.
Zack Heisey builds a gauge panel for your rig that's cut for aftermarket gauges. He even lists on his site the autometer and vdo part numbers that the panel can use.

alternatively, I just pulled a working guage cluster outta a 76. What if you were to unbolt the gaas guage cluster (only) from the back of the main cluster and were to install mine....would that work?

Also, are you SURE that it is the guage (as opposed to the sender) that is the problem?
