View Full Version : Cam Check, Who's Runnin What?
I am wondering if anyone is running the Crane Powermax H-260-2? Its specs are 204 IN 216 EX with a lift of .456 IN and EX .484 with a centerline of 112. Does this sound reasonable for a fresh rebuild with 9 to 1 compression? I previously ran a Lunati with .488 lift IN/EX with 218 Duration IN/EX with a centerline of 110. It seemed too big with a stock converter and a tired motor. Anyone running something other than stock with an opinion of the Crane Specs or an opinion on what they are currently running would be appreciated.

Those specs sound suspiciously like the Edelbrock Performer cam that I'm running in my trucks.
The Edelbrock is 204 IN 214 EX with lift of .448 IN and .472 EX with a centerline of 110. Do you like your Edelbrock? Some people on the board have said it didn't seem to make much difference.
How's this one...
Mine is a custom grind from Engle Cams (http://www.englecams.com) in Santa Monica CA.
The grind is as follows...
Intake (Grind #k52-hyd)
489" lift, 209*Dur(at .050lift), 112* LobeCtr
Exhaust (Grind #k54-hyd)
501" lift, 214*Dur(at .050lift), 112* LobeCtr
This grind is for low RPM torque and starts to give up around 4500rpm, but thats fine with me. My 727 shifts at 3500-4000rpm under full throttle.
The cam really needs a 4 barrel on top of it to shine but I'm stuck with the 2150 here because of smog. I would definately recomend this cam (if you can afford it) and would even consider going up a step (k-54Int/k-56Exh) on a 4bbl equiped non-smog motor.
I ran an Edelbrock equivelant grind before this one and just didnt feel like it was doing much over stock. The Engle I have now is definately better off the line and thru 4000rpm.

SIS, Duration: int-214, ex-224 @.050, Lift (at valve): int-.472, ex-.496, 112 CL.
Was a great cam in the 401 at .030 over, but I think it's a little much for the 360 @.030 over?
Problem is, I tried the Crane, a Comp Cams, and two Isky's, all were just too anemic, felt like factory. Would like to find a middle ground that would be a little more driveable and get good mileage, but still be a little peppy. Oh hell, I want it all!!!

I have a J20 (80) with an Edelbrock cam and I'm not impressed with it at all, I think my stock J10 will blow it off the road. And it has a 2V on the J10. The J20 has a performer and a 1406 Edelbrock. Need to do a lot more checking I've only had it a short while, it kinda acts like its not getting full throttle though. Trying to finish up the interior so no seats right now. Let you know after I get everything back together. doing carpet, bucket seats and fixing all the PO screw ups! MG:) smile.gif

* Duration at .050 in. cam lift: 214 intake/224 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .472 in. intake/.496 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 112 degrees
* RPM range: 1,500 to 4,500

Bryant,
Is that the 8600 or the 8600K?

Or maybe find a place where people can test each others vehicles with each cam and get a good concensus on which one seems to be for all-around?

As for comparing the cams, there are alot of factors to consider. Many people have different carbs, headers, manifolds, exhuast systems. So it is going to be hard to get a good comparison.

But, it would be nice try other stuff and see what the differences in everything else makes!

this cam has a built in 4 degree advance in it. i don't know how it will run, but hopefully it will do okay with my torker intake.

I am also running the Summit 8600 cam. With that and a ported out stock AMC squarebore 4bbl intake port matched to the head and my 2bbl Holley Projection, I sure have fired this beast up! She scoots real good now.

So who noticed a major difference when they installed the cam in comparison to stock?

Sounds like some have noticed an improvement. Anyone else notice anything different??? I just don't want to "overcam" this HOG.
I noticed that someone mentioned with # of miles, trannies, t-cases, exhaust, and ignition, it is hard to compare cams in different jeeps.
Just wanted to throw another wrench into the gears: altitude will affect your cam a lot too.
Above 5000, you can take 500 off both top and bottom of your "cruise" RPM.
I'm in the process of putting a 401 with a Performer RPM. I'll post early next week on the results.

I am running a .268 HYD COMPCAM
I am pretty happy with it nothing extreme.
Good powerband low -mid RPM range
using 2150 stock 2bbl carb.

I'm running a 204-216@.50 Melling in my 401, indexed straight up. I don't have quite enough carb on it yet w/ the 600 Holley but has lots of low end grunt and seems to flatten out around 4K. I like it...definitely stronger than stock.
