Hey, anybody know what axle came standard under a '63 J-300? I don't have the vin # so I can't check the GVW right now, will get it later though. It's single wheel and 5 lugs. I know the D60's came with 5 lugs until something like '72(?) In one of the books I've got it says it's either a 44 of a 70. If it's a 70 I'll probably get it, I can get a good enough deal on it to make it worth my while. Also it's got a D44 front, so I can take the gears out of the front on that and put them in an open knuckle that I've got here. :D 4.88s....

Thanks for the input,
Anthony

Tony, if it's a 5 hole wheel rig it's either a D44 rear or D53. The D70's were 6 hole in 63.
The D53 is a semi-floater axle and replacement parts are made of unobtainium :(
The 5 hole D60 you mention is the D60-2 and didn't come out till 69... and it's also a semi-floater(got one in a 73 J-4000).
