I just bought a pair of WT axles out of a 76 cheroke cheif for 50 clams. I can't wait to rebuild them and slap them under the 79 wagoneer. The only minus is the front axle doesn't have the axle shafts. I was wondering if anybody has bought or has any info on some after market axle shafts i.e. moser, warn, superior or any other brand. I'm planning on running 36x12.50 tsl's, 4.56 gears and a locker, so I want some beefy axles.

I sold my old front Dana 44 to a friend who put it under a Z-71 and converted to solid-axle. Warn makes an axle shaft, but I can't remember if he said it was 550 bucks a piece or for a pair.... but they're super-durable from what I've heard.

The D44 is a very common axle and just about anyone that makes axle parts will have what you need. If I was you I would post in the classified part of the forum for the axles. Might have someone here that has some for a good price. I have some but I carry them with me incase of a breakage. Although I must say I have yet to break one. KNOCK ON WOOD!

WOW...I put 1-piece summers Bros axles in the AMC20 rear of my CJ7 for a whole lot less than that. Had no idea that axles shafts were that high!!!

This is technically not a reply, but I was wondering if the axle shafts were interchangeable between the open and closed knuckle 44's, I cannot afford to swap out the frontend yet, as I am going to have a currie 9" high pinion custom built for the front, so I want to run some high strength front shafts till then, and I am putting 36x14.50's on my truck, and I am not concerned about the rear, as there is a dana 60 HD, that is just sitting around, if the 44 goes, and a set of 15x10 eight lug wheels, and the eight lug drums and knuckles should be all that is required to convert to eight lug,

I know where there is a 77 Chief Widetrack with complete front end. I don't know how much you would be willing to spend but I could check and see how much the guy would take. Shipping from Albany NY could get expensive.

I know I can get moser axles for 295 per pair so thats about 600 for the whole axle. Are moser axle as good as the warns?

The Warn shafts are made from a stronger material than the Mosier, but either will be stronger than the U-joint
