I've noticed that third gen Camaro/Firebird electric fans can be had very cheap. They also have a radial four bolt mounting pattern so it would be easy to make a frame to bolt these onto FSJ radiator supports. Anyone think one of these will keep an AMC V8 cool? Wouldn't cost much to find out.

it should ,heck FSJ's have a bigger grill opening and the engine size is similar. just like you mentioned make sure you bolt it to the support and not threw the radiator with those pastic thinggies as over time and vibration they will wear threw and cause a leak. you might want to also make a shroud so it pulls from the entire radiator instead on just one spot. i made mine from 14ga aluminum sheet and spaced it off the radiator with 1/2in foam weather stripping.
beleave it or not but that made a huge diffrence smile.gif
oh ya and make sure ya wire it up right so it is pulling the air the right way (dont ask how i know)

GruntDoc-

½" foam weather stripping? How long has it been since you put it on?... reason for question, I wanna know if heat from radiator is doing any damage to the seal(melting/etc.).

I got 2 nice size electric fans from 2 different early 90's V8 caddies, (pick and pull junkyard, $16.00 ea) they look like they're gonna fit perfectly side by side, but I'm waiting to install till I get dual batteries. I'm planning on one hooked up to a thermostat and the other manually switched (for extra hot days) and a master kill switch to turn both off for water crossings. good luck and make sure your alternator can handle the xtra amp pull.

the weather stripping works well, I stuck it in between the elec fan and radiator on my rice burner that sees 500 miles a week in the florida heat over a year ago. it's still in there and still works !

Will probably do the same thing. If those fans were for Northstar V8s they must be pretty good. Those engines cranked a lot of horsepower.

I have late model Chrysler minivan fan module in my Jeep. Check profile for pictures. If you use 2 smaller fans side by side, how will you brace it in the middle. My fan module houses 2 fans, and is a perfect fit. Perfect after I flipped it upside down.

I am thinking of a puller and pusher combination. One big puller like 15" or so, more or less centered on the radiator for primary cooling and a smaller pusher set offcenter for unusual conditions. Would stage the fans so the primary turns on 180 and the second at 200. Would install a manual shutoff swith in the truck for water crossings.

Not going to move onto this until I get the steering taken care of.

What year(s) of Camaro's are we talking about?
