A full-size spare.
A full set of axle shafts, driveshafts and steering linkages, and the tools to change them.
Enough fluids for an oil and radiator fluid change (should bring enough for the tranny too).
Recovery strap.
Big boards.
I should bring more, I know, but since I'm not doing gonzo wheeling, that's enough to get by.

ive got in my rig: 3 straps, impact gun,cut off wheel, socket and wrench set, including sockets for front wheel bearing nut,and big sockets for pnion and trasfer case yoke nuts,,screwdrivers, several other tools like vice grips, big adjustable wrench. the only fluids i actually carry with me anymore are water and antifreeze, and a couple quarts of atf for the power steering smile.gif i used to carry a whole case of atf,but now my tranny and xfer both are filled with gear oil smile.gif
i also have silicone,self tapping screws,jb weld,battery cable ends,vaccum caps,metal strapping,baling wire,hoses,belts,fuel line,U joints,driveshaft u bolts,ignition module,starter solenod,electric fuel pump,assortement of clamps,nuts and bolts,tire plugs and patches,a tube,electrical supplies like wire,crimpers,connectors,fuses.also plug wires and spark plugs.small stuff like cotter pins and washers.
hmmm, lets see. i carry a high lift and extra steering linkage at alltimes,a small and a full size shovel,an ax,and an assortment of winching suppies such as pullies, very thick gloves,D rings,a small piece of chain with hooks, and a longer chain with hooks.
i also have som e odds and ends like extra bumpstops, some extra clutch linkage parts, some hose barbs and fittings.i cant even remember what else.
since my jeep is open topped, most of this stuff is stored in various sized ammo cans that are securely strapped down to the floor.
in my suburban i have a full size spare(for the jeep) drivesahfts, and extra front and rear axleshafts, extra hub, spindle, and knuckles,a grease gun, usually at least 3 gallons of gear oil,6 quarts of oil and a filter, and a tub of wheel bearing grease.also vaseline for holding gaskets in place. an extra distributor,in case the pickup goes out.also a starter, and an alternator. a starter should always be with you if you run an automatic. i leave mine in the 'burb cause i can be pull started if i have to be.when i had the auto,i always had it with me.also spare yokes for axles and transfer case,in case a u joint lets go and destroys one beyond use.
my xj friend has an on board welder,so i dont like to go wheelin without him.we actually welded my broken main leaf in my front spring a few weeks agao, and i wheeled on it the rest of the weekend. there is not alot of stuff that we cannot fix in the woods with a welder and OBA to power cutting/grinding tools
im sure there is some more stuff, but thats all i can think of for now...

I agree with you Bob. I bring a cell phone, Cb, jackets, gloves, Hi-lift jack w/jack base, 4 way lug wrench, full size spare, shovel, snatch strap, chain, tire chains, tools, N2 bottle w/hose and air chuck, 2 fire extinguishers, 2 flashlights and spare batteries, spare points and condenser, clutch cable, fluids, that's what inside the Jeep ever time it leaves the house. If we're wheeling someplace really remote or difficult I put a few more things in.

I have carried The Larry Locker (Jeepguzzi) to keep the transfer case engaged when the shifter hole was too small :D :D Now I carry a sawzall to remove the offending body panels.

I glad to see that I am not the only one that has a bunch of ammo cans in my jeep smile.gif

ammo cans are great! i can jump into a mudhole, completely cover everything inside, then drag it to the car wash, and thuroughly hose it out,and all my stuff is still dry :D
i am roofless, doorless, and windshieldless during the summer months, not to mention my big hole in the rear floor for the pto winch  ive long since given up on the idea of keeping the inside mud free,so i just "mudproof" everything i carry. ive even replaced mt tailgate with some mesh-like stuff for better rear visibility.
