I was informed that my WG being was a police vehicle originaly(RCMP,I'm in Canada and it has a stock speedo with kilometers listed no mph.) It's an 81, having what appears to be a stock two tone blue paint job (light blue on top, navy blue on bottom). As soon as this person heard that it was this colouration, zero rust, and in great condition (well pretty good) he told me it had to be a cop car. Any help people?
It could very well be an ex-cop Wag. They were used alot here in the states by county sheriff departments. I don't think there are any major difference in cop Wags other than maybe some electricals for the radios/lights etc. So far as the speedo in km's weren't all the Canadian built Jeeps and sold for in-country use equipped with a km speedo? Seems they would be since that's how you folks do things up there http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks Joe, I was not even sure if Jeeps were made in Canada. Most older vehicles (Like my 81) would usually have mph & kph, if they were for the great white north.

I'm not sure when exactly they started building them in Canada but from 81 on the first digit of the VIN will tell you US or Canada built. 1=US and 2=Canada

I lived in Canada and had quite a Jeep collection up there. If the Speedo is in kilometers it only means one of two things, someone changed it, or more likely sold in Canada. It does not have to be built in Canada to have a Speedo in kilometers, I had two that were built in the states but had speedo in kilometers, US built for export. I bought one from a Goverment auction and the other private sale.
