have no svc manual for the 66 gladiator, wondering what model of motorcraft carb is on that thing. its a 2bbl, the tag on the front is missing and there are no marks on it for me to tell what it is -- needs a rebuild kit but need to know what to order
thx

It should not be a Motorcraft Carb. I have a Rochester # for a Automatic as R3234A and for a Standard shift R3262A ;) Not sure that is what you have but most likely it is. ;)

Did motorcraft even exist in 66? Seems like it would be a Carter. <sorry for showing my age>

had an epiphany last night and realized that the info would probably be in the chiltons manual i had laying around that is rarely used.
the carb says "motorcraft" on it, and it looks to be a 2150 from the parts explosion in my chiltons -- side choke, front accelerator pump, top plate layout, etc. the chiltons states that stock carb should be a holly (2200 series??). seems like somebody has added this after the fact.
not knowing either carb at all, is there a preference in which carb would be better in the truck?
pulling it later this morning to see what kind of shape its in, one of the front corner boltdown feet is broken, not sure if its on some sort of adaptor plate or on the throttle plate.

Mike, My 66 Glad has a Motorcraft 2150 that was installed by PO. I believe the correct carb. is the Holley, but is no longer available. Memory is fuzzy but seems like the 2150 is closet thing and is usually the replacement for the holley. Am at work now but will look up info I have tonight and post.
According to the 66 TSM the 327 should have come with a Holly 2209 2v or a Holly 4160 4v carb. I think the 4v was only used on the Super Wagoneers though.

Sorry bud, but you may as well trash your carb. I did the same thing to my 2150, and it was a total loss. There are channels underneath those feet for vacuum. Plus, you'll never be able to get it to sit exactly right again, thus you will have a continual vacuume leak from under the carb.

ok then, that settles that....
so any ideas on whether to replace the 2150 or go to the holley 2204 -- or something completely different?

Being as how the 66 is pretty simple in its Vacumn circuts I would think you could run anything of your choice. and not have any problems. I would probally run the Holley 2 BBL model 2300 its a 500 CFM looks good, right at about $200.00 ;)

Why not go with the 4BBL, Mike? 327 'd probably benefit from it.
Are you thinking new or used?
Geoff
PS I have the 66 TSM if you ever need a look up

no manifold for the 4bbl, trying to go simple so i can just get it in the garage. of course if you know of somebody with a 4bbl manifold for the 327 i'd love to have one along with the carb...

I second crazy on the Holley 2300. I really like my Holley. They are very simple carbs and the 2 barrel would be even easier to work on.

A 2V holly was the factory carb. The spare 327 at my house...had one. Ken who lives in concord with the superwag/chevy 350 setup has it now. I don't know if he is using it or not. You might try e-mailing him to see if he wants to sell it. You might try looking on e-bay too. I have seen them there from time to time.
The 4V/327 manifolds are scarce. it's not too likely you'll find one for a reasonable price. But if you did it really increases your carb options.

I'd call jwjeep and see if they had a 4v. I've always thought it was silly to have a 2v on anything around or above 300 cid. It probably has more to do with my higher compression, but my 4v feels alot better than 2v engine.

If you're looking for 327 4 bbl manifolds, start searching the junkyards for mid-sixties Ambassadors. Most, if not all, had the 4bbl manifold. Check on the AMC/Rambler club sites for them too. I don't have any links. They would be a lot easer to find these than trying to find a super wag. They're the only ones that had it.
Also, I read somewhere that the compression ratio is different on 327's with the 4bbl. Anybody confirm this?

The compression ratio for the 2v is 8.7 to 1 and the compression ratio for the 4v is 9.7 to 1. Those numbers were for the Wagoneers, I beleive the Ambassadors and other AMC cars had a lower comp ratio. The 4v engines only produced 255 hp, if I remeber correctly.
