I tried with no sucess to get that booger off today. I was thinking of cutting as far throught the back side with my angle grinder and thin wheel, then tapping throught the rest with a chisle. Anyone tried this, was told by local 4x4 shop thats all they ever do. Any thoughts. Thanks Dennis

You do have pitman puller right. I put mine on put some good amount of presure on it and the heated it with a PROPANE torch. It will come right off. Use the propane it isn't as hot as a cutting torch. Focus the heat right on the arm not the shaft other wise you will cock your pitman shaft seal.
and if that dont work, then use the puller and put it as tight as you can then heat it then tap it with a hammer, then tightent the puller a bit more, then tap it more, then tighten more than tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more then tighten more then tap more

If you dont have a puller, I think AutoZone has a loaner program that lets you borrow certain tools, such as a pitman puller.

You can rent one at the zone. You actually pay for it up front and then get your money back when you return it. If it breaks, no problem, the tool has a lifetime warranty (and they do break). When you hit it, leave your nail hammer in the toolbox. This is mini sledge time (bout 3.5lb). Also, has anyone ever tried slamming the nut back up with the impact? I do that alot with rusted nuts, try and tighten first before lossening, wondering if the same principle would help here (cept to possibly push the arm up a little to loosen since the nut is already free).

Except that the splines are tapered, and it's the interference-fit which is usually keeping that pitman-arm in place. Tightening the nut before backing it out can help loosen rusted parts, but it would just jam that pitman-arm on tighter.

Unless the arm is very loose (and thus would come right off) it is not the arm that is rocking.
