i need to know all of the info to swap in a chevy 305 in my j-10. will it fit?

Yes it will fit, and depends on how much money you want to spend on motor then trans you could fabricate adapter for it then the wiring and motor mounts and any other items you would need to make for it work properly. What about original motor or different larger displacement?

A 350 will cost the same to build and you will have a much better engine.

yeah, 305 is gutless. go with a 350. Same block and adapters needed, just more power smile.gif

Why not a punched up 383, or beter yet, a real truck engine like a 396 (or better)?

305s had cams made of Play Dough. A friend had one in an early 80s Silverado that ate cams constantly. Happiest day for him was the day that truck was stolen. I agree, if you want a chebby, go with a 350 or larger.

Definitely go 350 if you want to go SBC. The 305 won't get better mileage, either, it will just have less power.
