So, what would happen if, while changing the transmission filter, the o-ring was left off of the plastic tube inside the tranny pan, next to the filter??
would it be slow to shift into gear????

I am not really sure, but why do you ask ;)

It would act like it is low on oil, as it would be possible for the pump to suck air as it would leak at the filter joint as opposed to sucking fluid through the filter element. It could very well cause a shift problem or worse, I would correct it as soon as possible.

Yes, PC, I thought it was on there  About a week later, I drained the old fluid from the drain pan, and found one in there   I thought it might have been an old one as I had not driven it that whole week. When I did, it would act like Crazyjeepman said, low on fluid, which I checked. So, I guess I need to open it back up. Do you think I did any damage?? It seems to shift fine after that initial start up, or if it has sat for several hours, like at work.
P.S. Crazy, this is the o-ring on the plastic tube, not the filter itself.
