Hi, My trusty '85 GW has finally reached its end. 200K and way too much Vermont rust to contend with. And she's tired. I bought a '90 GW in excellent shape and had the engine rebuilt...I am breaking it in and looking for "bugs"...got a couple already to check on. I want to take some parts off the '85, things like the window switches & motors, side mirrors, wiper motor etc for possible future use. Will parts from an '85 be compatible with a '90? I think most items will be. How can I check? Also, any advice on the best parts to take and store. For me, the engine & tranny are not worth it. Thanks, Jack

Window switches will be the same, motors will most likely be different, as will most all electrical conectors. Mirrors would be the same, wiper motor will be the same, though the plug is not, cut and splice there. Save what ever you have the time and storage for.

I've had an 85 and an 88 and for the most part the major items, motors, mirrors, etc are the same. The electrical system was changed for the newer models so like Crazy_Jeepman said the connectors may be different, but you could always make them work. If the parts look the same, keep them. If you cant use something there will probably be someone on this site that will take them off your hands. You might want to keep the rear view mirror if the reflective surface is still good.

The major difference will be that the GM type-56 electrical connectors may have been replaced with GM weatherpack connectors. The components and circuits are, by and large, still the same though.
Of course, the dash is different, as is the grille and the rear axle and the interior colors.
