on my recent road trip, it was like 100 degrees on the highway.
and so i had the aircon goin flat out.
when i pulled out of corners etc to accelerate to high speeds again, she was really jerky on the acceleration & gear change, before working it out & cruising again.
whats this all about?
BTW - drives beautifully at normal speeds with aircon on high.

Could soon be time for a tranny rebuild.

Well, you're right on about that "typical FSJ" stuff. For a band-aid fix, try replacing the tranny fluid and filter. That may give you time to ponder what to do about the rebuild.

check the transmission fluid...
when you round your turns it might all go to one side if it is low; causing the transmission to slip.
just a thought...
one time i had a similar problem. i was going off the freeway on to side streets a lot running errands. it was a real hot day and i was low on coolant. it would jerk and shake as it was overheating. then i would get on the highway and there was more air getting through the cooling fins it would stop. finally i noticed i was in the red and let it cool down before put in more coolant. it gave me no more problems the rest of the day. it made no sense then and still does not. but that motor was a POS and killed itself 20,000 miles after i got it
