WOW!

Pictures! NOW! smile.gif

I believe you either got the Dana 57 Dually rear or the Dana 70 rear.

Just find yourself a bellhousing? I'm sure Crazy_Jeepman has a few around! smile.gif

Chuck, I'll pass your post on to a friend here in WA that may still have a TH400 with the AT specific D20. Hopefully he still has it and will get back to you.
Just my two cents but considering the price of a trans/x-case and shipping costs wouldn't it be cheaper and easier just finding the correct T-18A trans?

To my knowledge all Jeep T18a's came with D20 connected to them. But T18'a arent cheap on the open market at all. Unless somebody here has one to sell off for cheaper.

yes,it should be very easy to locate a jeep t18.justmake sure it also comes from behind an amc 360 if you dont want to lengthen drivveshat and move your shifter forward(the 6 cyl t18 is shorter than the v8 version)

also, why wont the th400/QT work? the rear end might not be quite as offset, but it should still swp in just fine.ive know lots of people to swap a d20 n place of a QT nd vice versa, and not have prollems.

only thing is your qt chian will prolly not last long(only get 50-60k out of then anyway) if you use your truck for heavy duty hauling/pulling.an aluminum xfer with a chain driving both front and rear outputs is definately not the epitomy of strength for a workhorse dualy truck, but would get you on the road quickly, and might enven hold up with proper mainteance smile.gif

to help you financing,id be very interested in purchasing your buick t18 belhouinsg.wanna sell it?how much? smile.gif

It would seem there is another option here. Why not get a new input shaft for the Buick matched tranny? In fact you could carry the old one down to the store and say match it. Aren't they the same except for the length of the shaft?. I bought a replacement one for a 74 once. J20

actually, the shaft is likely the same. its the belhousing thats different. his has your standard buik/olds/pontiac pattern with the flat top(sorta) and he needs the roundish amc belhousing.

i could be wrong on the shaft part(might be differnt lengths) but he will definately need a new belhousing...

The later model T18 w/ 360, had a input shaft approx 11in long. It used the 360 bellhousing, approx 5in spacer which then bolted to the T18. The 350 Buick set up didn't have the spacer, thusly about a 8-9in input shaft. There was some difference between the two bellhousings other than bolt pattern. At any rate if there is a 360 bellhousing in the mix and the spacer, then I would still think buying the longer input shaft would be the cheapest way to go.

i thnk your numbers on the input shafts are alittle off. my t18 has every bit of an 8 inch belhousing, plus the 5.5 or so inch spacer making my input shaft 13-13.5 inches or so long.

also the buick/t18 does use the spacer. otherwise, the shifter would be under the dash.

the t18 in this link is from a buick 350 powered truck. the input shaft looks every bit as long as mine did when i had the spacer/belhousing off.

also, you can see the tranny attacehd to a buick 455 a couple frames later:
http://home.epix.net/~bradf/pics11.html

in this pic,and some others if you keep clicking "next" the spacer is visable.

the input shafts may be different, but theyre close. what is the saying about close? only counts when throwing horseshoes and hand grenades? smile.gif

you are indeed correct,if he has a 360 belhousing, compare it to the buick belhousing, and see ifts same length, and if it will bolt to the spacer. a simple belhosuing swap may be all thats needed. if not, also swapping the inputshaft should solve the prollem.

at any rate, he should sell me the buick belhousing smile.gif just in case someday i get a hair up my you-know-what and want to swap in an olds 455

I've had a fellow trying to get my 350 bellhousing off of me for a while. I may just keep it. My dad stil has a 455 sitting in his garage. One other possibility is that he has an old T 98 also. They look a lot like a T18 but have a really short shaft on them and use a 1in adapter plate between the bell and tranny. J20
