Need an air coditioner compressor source for my '77 360. Mine was at a friends until he moved away and decided to take it with him.
Any recommendations?
Should I go with original York style or get something newer?

Call Superior Manufacturing Corporation in Atlanta 1-800-877-6373
They make a kit with a brand new Sanden compressor to replace the York, and the kit includes a bracket for mounting. I think you have to have new hoses made with proper fittings. (at least I'm pretty sure it does) (This is a 'generic' Sanden compressor, not the same model that is used on later GW's)

I yanked mine off a 72 or 73 International Travelall, mounted right up no problems. All my seals and O rings were dry rotted so the AC system didn't work but the compressor worked great. :D

Ditto the Sanden conversion from Superior. That's where I purchased mine, and did an R134 conversion too. You can use Sandens with R12 too. Very pleased with the results.

How much does the compressor and conversion kit cost?

I just talked to Don at Superior, and the kits they offer are $225 for the Sanden-knockoff compressor and adapter plate, and $235 for the actual Sanden brand & adapter plate. The warranties are identical for both compressors (12 months/12,000 miles on workmanship). They are located in Stockbridge, Georgia.
With this kit, you utilize your existing York mounting plate in conjunction with the adapter plate. You will reuse your factory hoses (it is recommended that you go to a hydraulic hose shop and have them remove and replace the ends, fittings & seals. Will be a fraction of the cost of new hoses. You will also need to replace your evaporator with a new one. Condensor should be ok, but I have to get verification from another person first.
**We may get a slight discount as IFSJA members**
I am going to talk with him again after the first week in January, and see what we can arrange.

Why would you have to replace the evaporator?

Preacher, be sure and flush the system before you install the new compressor and condensor.
