View Full Version : How do you setting timing higher than shown on marker?

Some of you have suggested advancing the timing until it pings and then backing it down.

I believe my timing marks go up to 12-14deg maximum. How can you accurately set it higher?

either get a roll of timing tape that goes on the harmonic balencer or use a dialback timing light .

if you are "power timing" the ignition, does it really matter what the setting is? nope!

If you get yourself a timing-light with an adjustable dial on it, you index the "0" on the dial to the TDC mark on the balancer, then dial in the advance you want on the timing light. Then you adjust the distributor so that the timing mark reads right on TDC.
