My purge control valve has cracked and fallen off the charcoal tank recently, where can I get a new one? Is this an important part anyway?

It is a dealer only item. And is important so gas fumes don't end up in the engine compartment. You know it is the fumes of the fuel that ignites not the liquid itself, so if you don't want a rolling bomb you may want to gix it :D

I went to the local Jeep dealer and they don't make them anymore. Now what?

Have them check the dealer network. My local dealer did and found two, one in Neveda and one in New Hampshire. I bought the one in Neveda, so unless someone else got it the one in New Hampshire may still be there.

I went to the junkyard and got a canister for 5 bux. I did find a new canister, like $135.00!!
TAke yer old one with you, several model chryslers used the same nipple arrangement.

They are available at the larger parts store chains, they come as part of the cannister. ;)

I'm also looking for a vapor canister for an 85 GW. The dealer says no deal. All of the part stores (Oreilly, Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance, NAPA) show no listing. Has anyone found an aftermarket source for these? Or is there a close fit from another vehicle?

I just bought a new charcoal canister from my 82 at my local Jeep dealer. It was 100 bucks (many times they'll give you a discount if you ask for it).
There are plenty of these in the Chrysler Warehouse in Atlanta. Have those parts guys search the computers again!!

I bought one at the dealer 2 years ago after failing to find a parts store that carried one. The dealer guy said it was the same as many other Chrysler products. I don't know if it is a different part between your 85(AMC years) and my 90(Chrysler years).
Edit: I'm talking the whole cannister, not just the valve which isn't sold seperately.
