my (idiot) brake light came on and my brakes started going. I checked and I think I have a hole in my steel brake line about 1 ft up from the rear drivers wheel.
Question is....I can pay $45.98 for a (bent?) one from the dealer or $5.00 for an unbent one from NAPA parts.
I like the $5.00 price, but how much problem am I looking at replacing this myself?
does anyone know what size this line is and how long? (so I can pick it up on the way home from work)

Mine used 3/16" line, can't remember the lengths for sure...?? If you really have to get them on the way home from work, get lines longer that you need. You can either cut and re-flare them (if u have the tool) to remove the excess, or you can put a few extra bends in it to take out the slack. The double flaring tool cost me 15.00 last year. Any parts house will have one, but I would expect it to cost more at a NAPA. :D

it seems to be the line going from the front to the back along the frame.

congrats, you got 5 years more than i ever got! all the earlier advice is good. bad news is that you'll prolly need to drop the skidplate/gastank to access the line. once the tank is out of the way, the line is easily dealt with. when you buy the various stuff you need, add some universal gastank straps to the list,if you dont use it it can be returned

One more word of caution. Every time I mess with these, the flare nuts at each end try to strip out on me (the head, not the threads). Make sure you use a line wrench to break them loose, and sometimes that don't work. Locking pliers have to be used about 1/2 the time. The line wrenches usually save about a hour of bad language and thrown tools. Or, since you're looking at replacing the line instead of re-using, just cut the line itself about 1" from the nut and use a 6 point socket to pull 'em out!

I know I am trying to 1/2 arse this job, but I really don't want to drop the gas tank.
Has anyone tried clipping the brake line and re-routing the new ones a different way?

Try disconnecting the line at both ends and move around alittle to see if their are any clips mounted behind the gass tank. If the line moves freely your in luck, just tape the new line to the end of the old and slowly pull the line through. On my J truck I had to put a gentle bend upward as I fed it through. If you decide to re-route just keep away from any moving parts, ie driveshaft etc. Good luck.
