I just did some figuring and came up with approx. 150 feet of tubing...1.5" DOM/ .120 wall, gussets, bushings, bolts, flat plate, other misc.

The 150 feet of tubing will provide a hoop at the windshield, behind the driver's seat and one at the rear of the Wag, cross bracing, etc.

Tubing at obe source wanted $3.90 per foot :( and another wanted $1.70 per foot :D ...guess where I am buying from  ??

So approx. $300 for tubing, and the rest is about another $150.00 to $200.00 depending on the bushings.

I guess about $500.00 should handle the materials, then $750.00 for the bender. The time making my own rollcage...priceless :D

750 for a bender!?!?!

Look at the JD3 bender at www.jd2.com (http://www.jd2.com)

WAY UNDER $750 but can get up there when you start buying the dies...

Just curious, why only 1.5"? I know thats what they use on the little jeeps and stuff, but i would've thought on a fullsize, you might want 1.75-2".

Todd that is the JD2 bender. The bender with stand and degree wheel is almost $300.00 then two sets of dies, one for the 1.5 and one for 1 inch 180 degree. They make great stuff but the dies cost almost as the bender and when you buy two they add up real fast.

74Wag I figure the 1.5 inch DOM seamless tube will be more than enough. The 1.75 and 2 inch stuff is way big and not needed. I am not chopping the top and will have the original roof for support also. A SCCA tech advised the 1.5 inch DOM is plenty strong for my application. Besides it will also weigh a little less that way.

Just my thoughts smile.gif

i built mine from 2" scrap welded seam tubing, and bent it with a $150 harbor freight hydraulic bender. my starting point was a roll bar from a stepside ford. it had been present, simply blted to the floor, for several months prior to building the cage. it is now attached to the frame.

i gave $50 for the rollbar, and have less tha $50 in the rest of the tubing smile.gif

highdollar DOM tuning is the correct way to do it,but plain old welded seam stuff is plenty stong, and a few cents a pound at the local crap metal recycler.

i am confident in the ability of it to keep me from being squished if i were to roll all the way over.

i would love to have one of those benders. makes muchnicer bends than the one ive got
