View Full Version : Swaybar-disconnects... a picture's worth a 1,000 words

I didn't realize how poorly my wag's articulation was until looking at some pictures. The compression isn't bad, especially in the rear. But the droop is awful. I know that there's that Hummer-school-of-thought: with lockers, who needs flex! Well I've got a locker, I want more flex.

The thing that gets me is that slow weight transfer - you've been there. Ex: twisted, three wheel touching (RR, RF & LF), you go a bit further, now you're basically ballanced on two diagonal wheels (RR & LF), a little further and the weight shifts and now the weight is on three wheels again (LR, RF & LF). It's that transfer that gets you in trouble - rolling over, smacking a tree, etc.

So that's the long explanation (1,000 words) why I want more droop... here's the short explanation (picture) http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/v8wagoneer/vwp?.dir=/Jeep/Jeep+Photos&.dnm=RightTilt2.jpg&.src=ph&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/v8wagoneer/vwp%3f.dir=/Jeep/Jeep%2bPhotos%26.dnm=jee p.1..email.jpg%26.src=ph

Can I buy disconnects for the front swaybar? Do I have to make them?

Thanks!

CJ JKS disconnects will work! I must tell you though I don't use a sway bar and see no ill effects at all. These rigs are leaf sprung and really don't need one.

Be sure not to overlook the shocks. They are a big time limiting factor on the frojnt and the rear isn't much better. You can get longer shocks and or extend the from shock mounts.

Thanks for the CJ tip!
I kind of figured the shocks to be part of the problem or at least the next problem. That was the case with my CJ - flexy springs, then the swaybar, then the shocks, then the brakelines...

I have "Nitro" shocks for a 3" lift. I'm not thrilled with the shocks, at all. They don't seem matched to the springs - the Jeep is a bit bouncy. The shocks don't seem able to controll the springs.

Any thoughts on a good replacement spring - good ride quality, help in the droop department... ?

Thanks!

A buddy brought up a pretty good point about swaybars. If you have em or had them but yanked them or have them disco'd and you get in an accident on the streets you will be found responsible (up here in Canada anyways) If the cops think your rig might not be legal and they send it for inspection. Even if you hit some drunk in your lane.

Disconnects = BIG NO-no! smile.gif

Do a search for "TK Sliders"

MY buddy Tim Kyle makes them.. VERY high quality, VERY high praise by MANY Magazines and E-mag's as well.

i was just going to say shocks are a limiting factor i am getting sway bar disco's for the reason stated by wagonburner if we get caught with out factory safty parts they care but as for emmisions i guess they don't . igot a mech inspetion done for a case of beer and he didn't even look at the truck. go figure i love my fsj she would have passed with flying colours if he had looked
