I am getting my new/old engine ready to go in my wag and wanted to know, should I use any kind of gasket goop on the new gaskets ? I am basically replacing all the top end gaskets and the oil pan gasket. Also re-building water and oil pumps... If I need goop, what brand should I go for? Oh, and headers too!

I belive you use blue RTV on everything except the oil pump and exhaust gaskets, I am assuming that you are not replacing the head gaskets, you wouldn't use RTV on that either.

Black is oil resistant, Blue is fine for water or coolant not anything to do with oil, Orange heat resistant. However I do not use ANY of that garbage. I will use BLACK RTV in place of the two end gaskets on the intake as they are a waste of time to put on anyhow. Hightac 90 to dress anyother gaskets. RTV is dangerous!

I recommend getting a single piece engine oil pan gasket. I got mine from napa for 27 bucks. The only RTV you'll need, you have to apply to the holes in the timing cover, to ensure a proper oil seal. The rest of the gasket goes on real easy.
