Okay I tried to order the rancho Dual Stabilizer setup. Well I wasn't home but 4wheelparts.com called and said they don't have the dual setup.. I don't know if he was saying that they don't have ANY dual's or that they just don't specifically make them for the Wag. Well I called back he wasn't there.. I have the parts numbers from Porkchop's dual rancho setup for that 79 Chevy.. so I can ask for those when I talk to this guy.. BUT... if they don't have anything is a Dual the only way I can go with 35s??? I just would like to have something to help keep me on the road when I drive around town and for the trip to gorman..hopefully.. Thank you for your responses!

You might try Summit (1-800-230-3030). I got their latest catalog just today and they claim to have them. They also claim that you need the dual setup on 35" and larger tires.

Use the numbers PC gave you. It is a dual steering stabilizer for a fullsize Chevy. I works great. I have the same dual on my rig. I would call summit and order it from them. They are cheaper than 4Wheelparts Wholesalers.

I've also only got a single stabilizer w/ 35's......no problems to speak of. I'm wondering what more duals would do?.....enlighten me please, mabey I'll switch. smile.gif

Running more than one reduces the possibility of the wheel jerking out of your hands if you hit an obstacle that forces your tire QUICKLY to one side...and somewhat helps reduce wandering from slop in steering components, BUT when slop is taken up by stabilizers, you get more of a delayed reaction in your steering ability due to the stabilizers 'holding' everything steady.

Todd,
I've got a 4" drop pitman arm with a 6" lift....so far bumpsteer does not seem to be a problem with the single stabilizer. Wandering though...hmmmmmm. The ball joints really helped alot but I still have a slight wandering at all speeds....and I seem to over-correct very easily.

Some things I'm wondering about:
1. Bad Steering gear..how do you know?
2. Caster angle...increase it. BTW, how do you measure what you've got curently?
3. Replace all tierod ends and draglink ends....regardless that they "seem okay" to me.

I know the Jeep will never drive like one right off the showroom floor.....but it's got be better than this....or am I too picky.

Sorry to highjack the discussion. smile.gif

Andy,

Steering gear may have some play in it...can be adjusted at the top of the box... but don't make it tight or your auto-centering will be gone.

Also...check the rag joint at the connection of the box and column.... there is alot to be said about worn rag joint being overlooked.

all new tie rod ends and draglink will definitely help...

As a rule of thumb.. I try to replace ALL compnonents at once.... this way I have ALL NEW parts and alleviate the numerous breakdown....

I collect all my parts over time and hit all in one weekend...

Caster angle can only be properly measured the the centerline of the upper and lower balljoints. You can make a jig to do this with the wheel off and sitting on level surface.

Also... a good alignment shop can tell you how far off your caster is... the printouts display the findings across the board.

I adjusted the steering gear...mabey too much? Guess I'll play with that. You know I thought about the rag joint....know of any good "how to's" for that? I hear ya on replacing everything at once....but I've been trying to nail down the cause of the problem....mabey it's all this "small" stuff added up...who knows.

Thanks for your help Todd,
