A common cause to this problem is the three-terminal connector right behind the turn-signal housing in the front valence panel. Jeep used very poor quality metal for the terminals, so they corrode and lose contact, causing the no-blink.

The ideal solution is to disassemble (i.e. break apart) the connection, release the intact connectors, cut back the wires to some good copper, crimp and solder new GM Type 56 terminals (you can get them at a NAPA, though they may have to special-order you a box) at the end of the wires, reinsert them back into the terminal housing, use plent of dielectric grease and reconnect the wires.

A less-than-ideal-but-still-workable solution is to just jumper the bad connectors, or connect the wires directly with some waterproof crimp connectors (the kind with their own waterproof shrink-wrap).

If you are patient, replacing the terminals will probably be cheaper, and will allow you to use a replacement lamp from any other FSJ, should you ever need to.

I think my '88 is still blinking off the wires I jumpered a few years back, though, so that will work too.

Mr Barry always has good advice...had same prob with left front awhile ago, FD mechanic fixed it for me, said it was a bad ground... sure beat doing that thing with the turn signal lever ;)
