Hey guys!
I know this is probably old news to some of you but I thought it would be of intrest to some, and it doesen't cost much. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gifYesterday I purchased "Popular Mechanics" Automotive Repair on CD-ROM for my 88 GW. It was only $19.99 at K-Mart. It seems to be pretty comprenhensive in its coverage of our beloveded FSJs, I haven't had much time to play with it, but for all of us with computers I think it is 20 bucks well spent.
I believe you can order direct from Popular Mechanics. I'll check and see if it is available on their web site. Anyway you guys check it out.
I have had chance to play a little more, there are exploded views of the drive train, brakes, vacumm diagram, and most everthing esle, including the emmissions system. The only thing I found really short was the exhaust system however they did cover the cat and exhaust manifold. There is also a/c conversion to 134a and other technical service bullitins. It is by ALLDATA. I am satisfied, I have spent a whole lot more on beer and felt a lot worse the next day http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
You can get it at the Popular Mechanics website. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif------------------

Hi guys! I have purchased all of the documentation I could get my hands on for my Jeep, and in doing so I have found that there is no one definitive resource of information for our vehicles. I have MR253,Hanes, and Chiltons, as well this CD. I have found answers to problems in all of these. What is not covered in one is usually covered in another. I has been my experience that you can not have too much information, this is just another source to work with. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

I bought one two years ago and thought it was a total rip-off. Not even as much information as a Haynes or Chiltons.

There's a program called AllData that's pretty good, and I can get it for all those who have hi-speed access. I think I've got 81-87. Anyone interested??

Sorry it took me so long to reply. you're going to need:

A) A CD writer

or

B) A utility that converts CD images onto a fixed hard rive(I can supply this)

What year, model, etc. is your truck??

I bought a one year subscription to the alldata DIY online service which I think is part of Autozone. I was pretty disappointed when I tried to look up diagnostic information and other service procedures. Personally I think you're better off with a Haynes manual.

All things well and good and each person to his on thing, but I don't think I could live thru another vehicle and only a Haynes manual.
I'd save up the other 80 bucks and buy a tech manual.

Which brings me to the point of this. Has anyone seen the new Adobe Acrobat? This is one awsome program according to my good friend Patrick. It's able to convert almost anything into a .pdf file, has interactive bookmarks, awsome graphic capabilites and all kinds of computery stuff. He has suggested putting my 87 manual on disk using his Acrobat. Seems a big project for me. My scanner doesn't work so I'd have to use my digital camera. But doable...............

I agree with you Gregorio,

Since the DIY subscription didn't work out, I purchased a set of factory Manuals to go with the Haynes manual that came with the Jeep. I use both of them. The Haynes manual is good for diagnostic procedures and describing the general workings to the new mechanic. The Factory manual has much more depth, especially in areas peripheral to the drivetrain.

If you are asking about the Acrobat I think that it is or at least there are mac and pc versions. pdf files are readable with the free downloadable Acrobat Reader. I think that there is a 4.01 version now.

sorry guys, been a little bisy with the hollidays. It's actually an application that you load onto your pc. I will rip a copy of it and then you all can download it if you'd like. that's why you'll need the hi speed access and a burner, or if you don;t have a burner then you can use the other utility to turn the cd image into an installable program. both the CD burning utility(CDRWin 3.8) and the drive mounting utility(Daemon Tools) will be available via download from my FTP server(and if you don't have a FTP client I can mail you one of those too).

Seasons Greeting. I expect I'll get this done sometime this week. Thanks for you r aptience.
