Update, I did a r-12 top off in my Jeep, and things run very well now. I had mentioned that I would source an online EPA test site, take the test, get certified and buy some R-12 online. It went perfect, the test took about 1/2 hour, not real difficult, and I bought 2 cans of Freon at Ebay for $20.00 each (ouch!). My local Pep Boys had some close out R-12 stuff, a gauge and the filler unit. So I tightened the fittings, hooked it all up and put in 2 cans. Checked the pressure, all is well. Saved about $100.00 plus. I highly reccomend this. r-12 is at about 20 a can on ebay now, and there seems to be plenty of supply. MY York may need a rebuild, and I am looking for that now. Kool.

unless your in south texas this probably wont help you. Across the border by laredo they sell r-12 at their local market right next to all the fruit :D if i remember it was about $6 a can this was about a year ago. now it will cost you about $20 bucks in bribes to bring it back :D

there is a new product out called Freeze 12, and another one is out that another board member posted but i don't remember the name, n e ways this stuff has all the properties of r12 but is ozone friendly, a lot of the r12 out there is not r12 but a recycled r12 mixed with r22, i know this cause i have a $300 tool that will tell you what the freon's composition is when you hook it up, the prob is r22 will destroy the inside of your system. local a/c shops are actually reclaiming 134 and filling the systems with freeze 12 AND this stuff is only slightly more expensive than 134 AND no liscense needed to buy(they didn't ask to see mine) soounds too good to be true but it is

The Freeze 12 worked great in my '78 Nissan, went for over a year on 1 12oz can and always ran cool. My mechanic friend next door works for Buick here and the're using it in all the older cars that come in now.

i really like the freeze 12 especially when you consider the r12 you get might not even be r12 and there's a real good chance its contaminated

Do you have to evacuate the R-12 before putting in the Freeze 12 or can you just add it to the R-12?

Print out the booklet, read it, take the test. Carefull, there are a couple of slightly 'trick' questions. ONe deal with section 608 vs 609. One is for r12, the other for r22. Although R22 is not really talked about much in the booklet and training, they throw that in.

Test took about 1.2 hour, printed off the cert online and used it.

They mailed me a copy of the online cert 3 days later, and another registered copy is on the way.
