Hey have any of you actually installed a throttle body system? (I actually know some of you have) but here is my question. did it help you with emissions? I keep on failing and instead of dumping my money into making it right it would be easier for me to get something that is easier to work with like Throttle body. Let me know.
Was it easier or harder to pass emissions?

Better check whether you can do that in MD. I know here in VA you can't touch any of the original emmissions equipment - and they include the carb. Maryland could be different, but I would check before I put a grand into it.

Whether or not it will help all depends on why you are failing your test. If you are failing because your carb is trash, then going to EFI will probably clean it up some. If you are failing because of mechanical issues with the engine (worn rings, valves, etc) or plugged cat, or things like that, then EFI won't help.

Ok All I actually came across a complete throttle body injection system from a 1990 chevy astro. It came behind the 4.3 engine. I cannot resist the temptation to install it in my wag. I know that the injectors for the 350 engine are different but purchasing those should not be a problem. How difficult will it be to install the system in my rig and get it to work? what will it entail? I know that I wil have to install a few sensors and either get a chip that is programmmed or have the existing computer reprogrammed. What else wil I need and how difficult will it be? What else will I need from the donor vehicle? Have any of you ever done this? Seeing as I have most of the components already I probably can make a nice system and do it cheaper than if I bought a kit. what do you all feel?

Actually you want a throttle body off a 350 or larger engine. The 4.3 has smaller bores and might actually not flow enough air for a 360. Most people I know that have done the TBI conversion use the 454 throttle body with the smaller 350 injectors.

The 350 and 4.3 used the same throttle bore,
the 454 used the larger 2" bore. The 4.3 body
will actually have larger bores than the origional
2150 carb. So it should be fine, larger injectors
would be advised, then from there it is all up to
you and your wallet, do you want the computer to
control advance ?, do you want to retain the
emisions system ? , do you want the knock sensor
setup ? There is a lot of options and they come
at various cost/performance trade off.

ok then maybe I actually may not be able to build the system cheaper than the guy at custom efi. However I have another idea and I shall have to post it in a new forum. Anyway I guess the throttle body swap is not really worth it in the end as it will not be cost effective and too much headache. I have another idea or two in mind. I will try those now.
