Mounting of TH400/D20 vs TH400/QT. Looking for a diagram and any thoughts on improvements. This topic has been covered before, but I couldn't find the diagram in a search.

I also would like to know as I am doing the same setup. Do you use the original crossmember?

in both cases the transfer case does not have its own mounts and is supported by the tranny,so you will reuse the stock th400 trans mount and crossmember,in its same location, prolly the 1st set of holes in a v8 application.

as far as improvements the stock tranny to xfer is the week link,so you may want to consider an aftermarket adapter or fab up some mounts to support the d20. lots of folks have cracked 1 or 2 of the factory adapter. porkchop and riverbeast can give ya some more info on that.

what other info do you need?

I know with the D20 in my cherokee that is bolted to the cross member via a torque arm. To keep the whole asslembly from wanting to rotate. Although granted this is with a T18a, not a TH400.

Yep craked more than one  . I have my D20 mounted with the qt cross memeber and the original D20 torq bar. That gives it a little more leway, but not much. I now have a Novak adapter that I have yet to put in.

I have the same setup as PC and I am on my third adapter....

DO NOT MIX MOUNTS... what I mean is run all poly or all rubber....

I too have replaced the broken Dana20-TH400 adapter. Mine came broken (adapter mounting tabs) on a stock rig. I think this shows how critical proper mounting and setup is on these. If the tcase snubber bushings (that's what I have always called them) are worn out, they will allow the tcase to be mounted with more torque placed on the right side, thereby creating stress from the getgo on the adapter mounting points.
I think it's a good idea to replace all the mounts at the same time including the motor mounts.
I also carry a complete spare adapter at all times now.

someone posted a diagram of the two different stock set ups a while back. I did a search and couldn't find it. If anyone has the link please post.
