Okay, this may be a long post, but I feel like I'm running out of options. Yesterday I had driven around for about an hour when all of a sudden my GWag just died on me and would not start - I called a friend who came and towed me home. I started trying to figure out my problem. Here are my thoughts and the steps I took:
1. I thought it was fuel related (had put $20 of gas in the day before). I checked the fuel pump by disconnecting the line just before the fuel filter, placed a cup after the hose and tried to start it - the cup filled up with gas.
2. Checked the fuel filter (which is less than 6 months old) it is clear.
3. Poured half a cup of fuel directly down the carb, still did not start (it was at this point that I figured it must be ignition related)
4. Bought a new ignition module, I needed an extra one anyway. Plugged the new one in still no luck.
5. Checked for spark by removing a spark plug wire and grounding it - no spark.
6. I had recently installed a TFI conversion so I thought maybe the ignition coil was bad, checked it at autozone and it is good. In addition all plugs and wires are good.
7. Even though when the GW died there was no sound, just died and would not start, I thought maybe the timing chain. So I removed the dist. cap and tried to start it as my wife watch to see if the shaft turned - it turned.
8. The last step I have taken was to replace the pick-up coil. I thought this was the ticket but it wasn't, still did not start.

So here I sit, I am stumped. The GW sounds like it wants to start ( not silent like when the neutral is not fully engaged). The starter is turning, the battery is fully charged. It's just not getting any spark. My next few thoughts and questions are:
1. Could it be a fusible link?
2. Could it be the ballast resistor wire (the jeep ran great prior to this)?
3. Could it be the whole dizzy?
4. Is it possible for a timing chain to slip without making a sound?
I hope this post isn't too long but I feel I had no choice and wanted to give you all the information I could. Thanks up front for all your help.

If you have no spark you can eliminate the timming chain, as long as the rotor turns while engine is being turned over, even if chain has jumped it will still have spark.......just at the wrong time, since you have verified it does turn this should not be the problem. I would check all your conections be sure you have voltage when key is on, at the coil. Sounds like you have a power supply problem to the ignition. ;)

Check the wires that go from the distributor to the ignition box. You may have damaged them or broken them when you did the TFI. There is I think a purple and an orange, and maybe a brown.
Hope this is it!!
