Well now I'm lost.
Problems include stall for no reason (cut out) and it would only spark for a second when the key is turned back from the start to run position.
Ignition module?
Now the weird part. Checked voltage at coil and had 11.5v in run position. To much right?
Could it be the ignition switch?
The weird thing was I could hear a sizzling sound at the distibutor cap with the key in run. Why would this be?
Was cleaning connections and check voltage at coil again. Now it's fine 6.5v.
I hate intermitent problems like this, much easier to fix when they crap out completely.
Sooo the question is what's screwing up?
When checking out the rotor and cap I noticed that there is a fair amount of backlash on the rotor. Is this normal.
Is there an upgrade that I can do away with the ignition module, as it sounds like these are prone to causing a problem.
Vehicle is a '89 GW.
Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks. Kevin.

Sounds like your problem could be either the module or ignition switch. Is the wiring in good shape on your rig? If so then you might think about swapping the ignition module first - if that is not the problem then you would have a spare. I say do that first because it is quite a bit easier than checking and/or replacing your ignition switch. While I hear about modules failing I am on my second wag and after about 8 years of owning one have had no modules fail.

If you have side to side movement on your distributor shaft that is bad. You can turn the rotor some which is just the mechanical advance mechanism movement.
