Ok I know the the range lever is not suposed to move if your in 2 wheel but mine will shift into low with the dash switch in 2wd. I tryed it yesterday to see what would happen and it shifted into low range 4wd with dash switch in 2wd. Is this bad for the case?

most likely, you aren't in 2wd. take it to some gravel road or parking and hammer on it. see what wheels turn. it you don't spin out fairly easily, your probably in 4wd.

or, can you hear it shift? you should hear a couple of vacumn hisses when shifting either way. if you don't, it ain't shiftin.

If you can get into LO range "you are" in 4WD regardless of what the dash switch says. The 229 is designed so it physically "will not" go into LO unless it's in 4WD.
You need to fix the dash switch or the vac lines that operate it.
