Need correct switch number

There are two head light switches being called out on my 1979 J10.. Does anyone know the correct one or what the differences are?
I'm at work right now and the auto store down the road said they will have both of them delivered to them and I can pick which one it is.. I'd rather not buy both and go home tonight and figure out which one works..
Any insight into this will be appreciated, I'll check back here when I get off work this afternoon... Thanks, HOOT

You will have to look at the switch you currently have to determine which one. I went through this headache without knowing there were 2 different ones for my Wag, I bought a replacement that appeared the same, except when looking at the top, the tab on one #G7?(can't remember off-hand)did not extend over to another connection, when plugged in, I could only get running lights--no int. lights, etc. Went to dealer--they gave me same switch--same thing happened, finally, at the end of my rope went to Advance--who listed 2, he showed me both, one had the tab, one didn't, got the one with the tab--all is good! smile.gif

Looks like I'll buy both and go home and tear into the dash to see which one I need.. They said they will take the other switch that I don't use back..

FYI:

You will use all but one of the electrical connections. I had to scrap my little plastic harness and wire one at a time. For some reason, one of the tabs on the switch just sits there.

P.S. Disconnect your battery before messing with the switch. My PO didn't and melted the plastic harness!

I bought both and tried them both.Here is a short run down:

Switch with connecting tab all lights work ..

Switch with no tab,head lights only..

Without a wiring diagram for the 79 I'm not exactly sure why the differences..I have a 78 and a 81 wiring diagram and what is in the 79 truck looks like a cross between the two..
Spent alot of the time inspecting previous owner splices..Nice shape actually..Something is going on with my interior dome light wanting to stay on..I removed an unused push button switch .. I bet someone had it rigged to turn on the interior light with a push of a button and it to go off when you released it..

Now I need to find out how it is wired to stay on all the time..Wiring looks to be correct from what I can see..
